ATHE Level 4 Award

The ATHE Level 4 Award in Teaching Online is a new qualification accredited by the Awards for Training and Higher Education (ATHE) awarding body. The course has been approved nationally by OFQUAL and is available on the OFQUAL register.

The aim of this new qualification is to support staff in the education and training sector to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to teach or train in fully online distance learning provision. The qualification will also be useful for those who teach in settings where there is a combination of online and face-to-face delivery known as “blended learning”.

The course is for any teacher or trainer undertaking a fully online or blended learning course. It is designed for flexible use in different sectors, including schools, further education and training, and higher education. The course is available to any educator with a Level 3 or higher qualification in teaching or equivalent professional experience, typically at least three years’ full-time equivalent teaching in a secondary or post-secondary institution.

The course was commissioned by Wey Education and built by online learning specialists Sero Consulting Ltd for accreditation by the Awards for Training and Higher Education (ATHE) awarding body.

Wey Education has been approved to deliver the course.

The qualification will be available for delivery for external students from January 2021. The course will run one day a week and be available on the following days and times:

Monday, 3.30pm to 5.00pm
Tuesday, 4.30pm to 6.00pm
Thursday, 3.30pm to 5.00pm

The qualification is worth 12 credits for 120 hours of study, including 38 guided learning hours. It covers ten units:

  • Introduction to online learning and teaching
  • Planning online teaching
  • Teaching and learning with synchronous tools
  • Teaching with asynchronous forums
  • Selection and use of open content
  • Online content development
  • Formative and summative assessment in online learning
  • Collaborative learning with wikis
  • Teaching and learning event observation
  • Self-reflection and self-development for online learning

£1550 + VAT per participant.

Group and membership discounts available (£350 off full fee per participant).
