David Cross - Schools and Local Authority FinanceAfter a range of administrative roles in what was the Greater London Council he moved into financial management as a College Finance Manager with the Inner London Education Authority. Then whilst studying for Open University Degree he became “hooked” on finance in schools and worked as part of a team pioneering local management in over 1000 of London’s schools.He then worked on the transfer of education responsibilities to the inner London boroughs before taking up a position with the newly formed Hammersmith and Fulham Local Education Authority. Starting off with the finance function this soon expanded to include responsibility as Assistant Director for other support services such as Human Resources, School Governance and ICT. Including Student Support as well as the borough’s Library and Archive Services, transforming the libraries from a very traditional lending library only “public” service to one that opened seven days a week providing ready public access to the Internet and other media. For Wey David leads on School and Local Authority Financial planning. This includes working with school leaders to ensure appropriate high quality financial management and other support services to bring about positive change including meeting the government’s Financial Management Standard. Currently he assists both Local Authorities and schools with converting to academies, and assisting with Free School establishment as well as working part time in a school as a School Business Manager. |
